I cracked the code

Well sort of. I have this fun Japanese sewing book.

I gave one of the patterns a shot, I figured it was simple enough, but I managed it!

I even had to do some tricky math to scale the pattern because my hardware was a different size from what the pattern called for . . . well I think it was.

I used my fun hippo fabric I’ve had lying around for a while with a scrap swap piece on the inside. I’m super happy with how it turned out.

I’m not sure about how I handled the openings where the snap frame slides in but it works and looks good. Time to try another pattern.

My weekend, in bags and purses.

The ladies at work think I’m some sort of super woman. I went into work today with 3 purses, hemmed pants, repaired pants and my Little Red Riding Hood bag. Luckily it was a rainy weekend and the boys did a lot of snuggling on the couch with Daddy watching movies like Ghostbusters and Spiderman.

So here’s the parade of things I finished up this weekend.

I parted with some of my treasured Echino fabric to make the vest bag on the left, mine is on the right.

I made 2 of the vest bags in green for a lady at work who’s giving them to her daughters. One was already done, but I got this one finished on Saturday.

My friend wanted a bag just like mine from KimmyKingsbury. She found some fabric she loved and I created her own little copy of my bag.

Funny thing is I just packaged up 2 Kool Aid totes to ship tomorrow. It’s been a productive last few days!

I’ve slowly been growing my craft and sewing book collection since starting my blog. Right now I’ve got many, some I haven’t even really looked in yet, let alone created something with. But that isn’t stopping me from dreaming about these 2 gems.

I really, really want Amy Butler’s new book to fuel my bag addiction and stick to my promise that I can only have a new bag if i made it myself!

Friday find – The Sea Within.

At my first craft show earlier this month this lovely lady had a table there as well. I soooo badly wanted this bag, love the apple print, but I resisted. She said she moved here form the US and brought a lot of fabric with her, I checked Etsy for this one but can’t find it.

Good for me, I decided if I want to own any more bags/totes/purses I must create them myself, bad for her. However, her bags are quite lovely and so I thought I’d share the love and let you all in on her wonderful little store. Enjoy!

So I’ve decided to dedicate Fridays to sharing all the creative people I’ve found as a result of this blog endeavour of mine. I’ve got a pile to work through and I’d like to start with Blue Calla. Met her at a little Mommies night out thing a few weeks ago and, thanks to my weakness for all things tote/purse/bag related, I made a purchase. Here’s the wonderful little number I bought.

She uses such nice fabrics and the patterns are very stylish. I’ve been using the bag since, almost everyone comments on it. I learned from my Hot Butter purchase that people like fun one of a kind bags and usually ask, “Did you make that?” so I grabbed a bunch of her business cards and I’ve been giving them out when people ask!
