More scrappy wallets.

Yep, I made some. Pattern available from Michelle Patterns, link at top right.

Pretty fabrics

I splurged and got myself some fun Japanese fabric scraps the other day from this shop, Beautiful Work.

They arrived ridiculously quick. All the way from Japan.

I love how I can mail a cup cozy to the US and it takes ages to arrive but fabric from Japan got to me in just under a week.

Silly postal mysteries.

Awesomeness

Well I’ve been fighting a plague all week. I’ve just missed 4 days of work, the whole week so far since Monday was a holiday. I’m going in tomorrow, it’s a day I only work the morning. So that makes Friday morning the only time I’ll have gone to work this week. It’s been insane, I’ve never been so sick.

So while today is my last day at home recovering my son asked if I could go to his school this morning because his class was singing a song at the assembly. I feel weird showing up at their school while I’m ‘home sick’, I always worry their principal will see me and then bump into my principal and be all “Tara was at my school today . . ” and then the fact I’ve been dying for days and have a medical note won’t matter and I’ll be in trouble. Yes, even teachers dread being called to the office. But I did speak to his teacher, and sounded terrible still and I bumped into someone who told me I looked horrible, so I think I’m safe.

I got to wave at Nate excitedly as he waved back and me and we waited for the classes to sit down. Then Wesley came in with his class and they were all holding sings that said words. Things like – fun, happy, fast, strong. My son’s sign said ‘Awesome’. I thought that was pretty cool. Then before they started singing his teacher said that the words on the signs were words they used to describe themselves or that others in the class used to describe them. I thought that was even cooler.

Wesley you are beyond awesome and I’m glad you know it.

Blurb Instagram book.

When I went to Blissdom Canada I was given a coupon from Blurb and used it literally, in the last few hours before the coupon expired. Since I had only the time I was willing to stay awake that night I made a quick Instagram Photo Book.

It was super easy. You just connect with your Instagram stream and pick and choose the photos you want in your book. You can mess around with the order, choose the cover, it’s all pretty awesome.

Then at check out you can easily choose to duplicate the book, for a gift or such.

Right now, until February 14th there’s a coupon code to save 20% off your photo book, use code MYBOOKLOVE. After making my book and loving it so much I applied to the affiliate program, so fyi these links are affiliate links.

Twyla’s advice.

I’ve been reading The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp. It’s really good. I’m having trouble getting to it with my busy life lately, but report cards are soon to be all done and hopefully I can get back to it in full force.

There’s a page of questions to work through, there are many excercises in the book, but I copied those pages and went about answering the questions in a creative way. I cut them into strips and put some washi tape to good use making it pretty.

Sadly, I have to return it to the library, I’ve renewed it a bunch. I think it’s time to buy my own copy!

Bunting in progress.

I’m making some bunting for Impresario Market. It’s going to hang proudly in the store front window once it’s all done. Oh the prettiness!

Yes I’m 37

And these are my new favourite glasses. Thanks to my awesome cousin for seeing them and thinking of me.

I have made something new.

It’s in my shop now.

It was created with Valentine’s Day in mind but it’ll work for all year round.

I carved a HUGE stamp with my own little hands (the first of many I hope) and then stamped with brown fabric ink on the unbleached cotton. Then I cut out my usual cozy shape and embroidered the lettering and heart on. Then stitched it up into it’s lovely cozy form.

The wood button goes really well with it and saves me using a label! You can you admire, or buy, one here.

Summing up 2012 in a photo.

Yep, that’s about it.

From purple hair and a nose piercing to a ton of under the surface changes 2012 was quite the year for me.

2013 has started with me being a little quieter, something I’m not known for. I’m a bit of an extrovert (just a bit) but this year has started with me reflecting and looking inward a lot more. Things I’ve never really stopped to do in my 37 years (yeah I’m ancient).

I’ve been doing a lot of personal growth and I guess with it has come this hunger for creative growth too. Flipping back through the last batch of posts they’re all about other people’s creations, which I’ve been reading and learning about. I think it’s time to get back to making my own. Oh and being a little more loud and extroverty, when I’m not busy reflecting that is.
