Friday Create Along

Woohoo, I’m finally done the messenger bag!! Well . . . one of them at least!
I was zipping along all fine and good when I realised I may have done thing wrong with Wesley’s bag. So I laid it aside and started in on Nate’s to discover where I’d messed up. I found out, finished Nate’s, spent some quality time with Mr Stitchripper and Wesley’s bag and then I sort of wandered off to do something fun. Yeah I’m like that.

I’ll get Wesley’s done this weekend, Nate loves his. I used the same Japanese fabric I used when I made his little back pack so he likes it since it’s a bag “like Mommy and Daddy’s” but still like the little backpack he really likes.

I suppose I’ll get a double action shot too.

Next up is this Flores Clutch from I Think Sew. I’ve wanted to make it for a while and have owned the pattern for ages so I think I’ll set to it now! Take a peek around the shop, there’s some lovely PDF patterns there and they’re really affordable and delivered by email!

It’s a busy last week of school, lots of celebrations, parties and cleaning up but I’ll sneak in some sewing time.

Happy Tuesday

Hello if you’re popping over from My Girl Thursday! If you aren’t, head on over there’s a big giveaway right now.

I’m ridiculously excited about something I made on the weekend. Which is kinda funny since it’s made from garbage. I’ve had this idea for months and finally got around to making myself one.

Back at the beginning of my blog I took apart my hubby’s beloved travelling backback. He was throwing it out and I figured those buckles and straps would come in handy some day. Turns out I was right. I used the clasp, a D ring and the other little thingie that makes the strap adjustable. I was on a role Sunday making this and realised I didn’t have any new straping so I decided to use what I had from that backpack. Note: Don’t use 10 year old backpack straps on new creations.

It holds a ton, and can handle weight, that I knew already from my beach bag. There’s my ipad, purse organizer, coin purse (all made by me), wallet and a few other things.

I hung the bag on the hook overnight full of all my things for work, including my camera to take pics. Then as I walked out the door wearing it the strap broke. So I quickly resewed it. It broke again. It was so brittle it was just snapping. I tried to tie it in a knot just to make due and get to work and it just snapped each time. So last night I replaced the strap with new materials after a stop at the sewing store on the way home.

What was doing the night before our flight to England?

Making this!!

I wanted to try to make a messenger bag and I’ve been holding onto this super cute Heidi Grace fabric for a while and was happy to finally use it.

I added the little green heart just for fun.  The inside is just a cute swirly orange fabric I found somewhere. I’ve been reluctant to use the fabric since I had to get it on one of my road trips to Joann’s, and those don’t happen as often as I like!  If anyone from Joann’s is reading this, please build some stores in Canada!  I beg you.

I’d still like to make the strap adjustable but I was being impatient and wanted to take the bag on the plane with me.
