Friday Createalong

Ok, since it took me ages to finish my last project, that I only revealed on Monday, I thought it best to just wait until Friday to pick a new one.

So next up is this pouch from Obsessive Crafting Disorder.

You will need a piece of hexies that looks like this. Then you’re going to trim off the edges and make it smaller, I hate this part. Ever teeny tiny millimetre of hexie bit is such a huge labour, I can’t bear to even trim it down! But hey, that’s how it goes.

23 hexies, I can handle that, please someone play along with me.

Pretty please?

Outfit that I made sorta post.

I went over to my friend Tabatha’s yesterday and did some sewing. A while ago she gave me a skirt pattern and I made one but hated how it turned out. This time I popped over to her place for the day lugging my jersey fabric (it’s yellow with little brown hearts all over it) I’ve had for a while and took over her serger for an hour or so. It’s a Kwik Sew pattern, that says it’ll take an hour and it took me about 1 1/2 but we added some different way to hem it so that probably added cutting and sewing time. It’s ridiculously comfy and I love it!

Monday hexies, yes finally.

While this should be a Create Along reveal I can’t even bare to claim it as one it’s taken me so long to finish this project!

I had about 40 or so hexies all ready made but I needed 57 to get this project under way and I totally underestimated how long these things take! Perhaps if it was fall or winter and I was stuck inside watching shows or lazing about more, but with it being summer holidays the kids and I are keeping busy and I just found I didn’t have time for making hexies constantly.

The only thing that saved me was 2 Fridays ago my hubby came home and decided we were going to rip up the lineoleum and lay down the ceramic tiles we got on crazy discount. Did I mention he’s a programmer and I’m a teacher? It was apparent rather quickly we had no clue what we were doing. We had shipped the kids off for a Saturday night sleepover in some sort of dilluted ambitious hope we’d actually tile our floor ourselves. We gave up and called in reinforcements. So as Sunday evening approached and our fridge was in the livingroom and stove in the side yard I packed up some stuff and the kids and headed to the lovely home of my inlaws for a few days.

I camped out here and because their house is HUGE I barely saw the kids, they were happy to play with vintage Star Wars toys and visit with Grandma and Grandpa. Also, it’s a ridiculously bright sunny room and it was so awesome for crafting. One day a crazy thunderstorm moved in and it was awesome to watch it from this room since it has 3 sides of giant windows.

I took the kids to the park and tried to hexie but they were all over me.

I watched PanAm episodes and hexied away!

The kids played in the ‘carriage house’ construction mess.

Then last night I stayed up way to late assembling the pouch. The tutorial is fantastic, I love the finished edges on the openings for the frame. Sadly my frames are slightly larger than the one listed in the pattern, so mine sticks out a bit. I’ll go on a quest for a smaller frame soon because it totally bugs me like this.

Also, I have no clue how women made these things in the ‘old’ days, I get that they save scraps and use every little bit but my gosh they take oodles of time. It also pained me greatly to actually cut the big piece down a bit to make what I needed for the project, even those teeny scraps of hexies were painful to toss out!

Free patterns!

I’ve written about I Think Sew before, and I plan to again, but I just wanted to point out that not only do they have really great patterns they also give many away for free. Right now there’s a pile of them just free for the taking. Like these pouches!

And this tote! Oh my weakness for totes . . .

The ones you can purchase are also really reasonably priced.

I plan on making this next for my Create Along, provided I can muscle up enough hexies that is!

Friday Create Along, yeah.

Nothing like letting yourself down on deadlines you set all by your lonesome eh?

This was done last Friday but I just didn’t get to the whole photographing and posting bit. So here it is now. I’ll just forge ahead and share and then Friday I’ll announce my new creation.

I went with the lovely yellow & grey combo on this one. I love how it turned out.

Pattern is from here fabric is by Joel Dewberry, it’s Majestic Oak in Sunglow. Find it on Etsy.

Oh my!

Did I really just miss almost a whole week of blogging?! Where does time go!?
Guess I’ve been fooling myself saying “Once school’s out I’ll have so much time to do things”. Summer vacation isn’t as productive when you have a 3 year old and 5 year old to entertain and play with.

I did manage to do some creating last week. I’m getting ready for the Broken Arts Fest I’ll be at on Saturday.

Here’s the one with that vintage fabric I thrifted a while back, love the little handkerchiefs.

This bunny fabric is fun. I’ve had scraps of it in packs I’ve ordered here and there and I finally just went ahead and ordered a half yard.

I’d better get catching up on my Create Along post, and writing about the Hamilton EtsyCA meet up, and sharing some random stuff . .

Bigger scraps and non scraps.

I believe non-scrap bits of fabric are just called fabric.

I ordered some more fun stuff. Yeah, I need to stop ordering and get sewing.

I do have a problem.

But I admit it.

Carry on.

Scraps! Yes, I’m a scrap addict.

Well I fell victim to ordering some scraps again. These ones are from Michelle Patterns and I always love her fabric choices, all the ones she posts about on her blog and of course her patterns. So whenever I catch that she has a scrap pack for sale I usually end up buying it.

I’ve already cut a bunch up for some scrappy wallets and set aside the small bits for magnet making. Now that I’m caught up on all my orders I intend to do some fun sewing. What a coincidence school is almost out.

Seriously, fabric with poodles *and* strawberries. How cute is that?!

Friday Create Along

Woohoo, I’m finally done the messenger bag!! Well . . . one of them at least!
I was zipping along all fine and good when I realised I may have done thing wrong with Wesley’s bag. So I laid it aside and started in on Nate’s to discover where I’d messed up. I found out, finished Nate’s, spent some quality time with Mr Stitchripper and Wesley’s bag and then I sort of wandered off to do something fun. Yeah I’m like that.

I’ll get Wesley’s done this weekend, Nate loves his. I used the same Japanese fabric I used when I made his little back pack so he likes it since it’s a bag “like Mommy and Daddy’s” but still like the little backpack he really likes.

I suppose I’ll get a double action shot too.

Next up is this Flores Clutch from I Think Sew. I’ve wanted to make it for a while and have owned the pattern for ages so I think I’ll set to it now! Take a peek around the shop, there’s some lovely PDF patterns there and they’re really affordable and delivered by email!

It’s a busy last week of school, lots of celebrations, parties and cleaning up but I’ll sneak in some sewing time.

My friend made me pins!

And they’re super stinking fun! My friend Joanna made these for me and they’re such beautiful pins.
