Eye candy

As if Mollie Makes wasn’t already such a beautiful magazine. I’d love to own an actual paper one some day but since I renewed my digital subscription before I could find it for purchase near me I can’t bring myself to pay money for a paper copy when I already have one. Although sometimes the freebie gifts do tempt me. Now they’ve got Gathered and it’s weekly and I’m already issues behind!

I think it’s still offering 5 issues for free if you subscribe in some way, if you’re part of the iCrowd. They don’t charge your account until the 5 free issues are over.

Kobo Mini

Currently I have the afternoons of day 2 and day 4 off. This really kinda means nothing to you unless you work in my school board but I can translate by telling you it means I have Tuesday and Friday afternoons off until January 15th. It’s kinda sweet. On Friday while everyone was getting their lunches ready I was heading out. “Are you going shopping!!?” Everyone asked. I was a bit puzzled “Nooo . . . why?”. Then I was bombarded with 4 women telling me how they were watching the clock until 3:10, how they had been in stores on their way to work and here I was with the whole afternoon off and I wasn’t even going to put it to good use.

I did have to run into the florist at the mall so I decided to wander into the book store. I have an ipad but I’ve debated an ereader for a while. It’s really hard to read at iPad outside in the sun, it was pretty much useless by the pool on our trip to Belize last Christmas. So the mini Kobo was $30 off and only $49. So I picked one up.

Of course I had to jazz it up once I got it home.

Washi tape I love you.
Also, I did a lot of Etsy shopping this weekend. A lot. Because, you know, you have to support handmade and all that . . yeah . . .

Thrifting fun.

So my bff and I went thrifting tonight. Our Bollywood dance class was cancelled and so we made plans to head out thrifting with out empty night. Of course I missed the phone call yesterday that apparently Bollywood was back on but we were already in Toronto and having fun so oh well.

We hit 4 theft stores after dinner. Not too shabby.
However, I didn’t thrift a thing. Technically. I found this Lug bag at a Goodwill for $10.01 (gotta love their prices). It’s in the marigold colour of the second bag but it’s the style of the green bag. I’ve liked the look of Lug bags for a while but they’re a bit pricey, especially when you have a tote/bag addition. Online this one is about $65. Nice find.

I passed up some nice Pyrex, I already have soooo much.

And I carried this great bag around for a while but decided I have one very similar already here at home, and plus I was already buying a bag! You know you’re an addict when . . .

Craftsy class.

So on the day when I’m supposed to be revealing the bag I meant to make ages, and ages ago I’m instead going to blog about this great new class over at Craftsy, Design Your Own Handbag As I’ve said before I’m in love with Michelle Patterns (before = a million times over) and I dream of creating my own patterns some day too so I was really excited when this class recently came up. If you’re interested too you can click the link, check out the class preview and get it for 50% off because I sent you. We’re pretty special.

I signed up for their Sassy Librarian Blouse class a while back but after a foray into making a shirt flopped I haven’t been brave enough to actually give it a go yet. But I’m working up the courage.

As the snow begins to work its way toward my home I’m going to make it a mission to hunker down all warm and cozy with some tea and plow through all these To Do projects (did you catch the snow word play?).

You can check out their Feature Classes and Free Mini Classes here.

Did you hear?

Michelle Patterns are all on sale for $5!

I know I rant and rave about this lady and her stuff all the time, but yeah I’m doing it again. Also, how appropriate I post this the same week as my digital hoarding post.

A great big thank you.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who pops by here and read my blog. I know it’s for me and blah blah blah but it’s really nice to know there are people on the other end of this thing. If you follow me here or on Twitter or like me on Facebook or whatever I really appreciate it and I hope I return the favour in some way.

If you do something cool and I don’t know about it yet please point it out to me because I believe in sharing the love and shouting it from the roof tops when there’s cool stuff to be found.

Thanks!

Digital Hoarding.

I think I have a problem.

Literally, *every* Michelle Patterns pattern. Every single one.

I mean most people today have too much stuff. We’ve been trying at home to keep our ‘stuff’ minimal. We’ve banned knick knacks unless they come from our travels or really *mean* something to us. With our kids, while we are careful with how much we buy them, it’s hard with an October birthday and a December birthday and then Christmas 2 days after that . . . it gets a bit crazy. Honestly, it’s usually the reason I advocate for us to travel at Christmas, thinking we’ll skip the gifts mountain but it doesn’t work.

When you’re a crafter of course you acumulate stuff. Before getting into sewing I did papercrafts, cards and scrapbooks mostly. Then after starting my blog and getting into fabric now I have yardage, then a fat quarter collection and then I keep a scrap bin. THEN I have smaller scraps for 1 inch magnet making and then I keep the smallest scraps ever for hair clips and such. It’s insane.

Mollie Makes digital subscription. Now add Gathered to that. Honestly, both amazing, amazing magazines but yeah, adding to my collection.

Now add to that the things I’ve started to accumulate on my iPad and Macbook.

Folder and folders of things to look at later and get inspired or ideas to make. As if I need to add to my to do list or ‘things I want to make’.

Then there’s the business research and books and things to read I have as well. Classes to take, things to learn. It’s tough to balance it all when what you love to do, drives you to do it more and makes you happy but is hard to fit into your ‘normal’ life.

Someone please tell me you have this going on too!

Organizing, organizing and oh, more organizing.

So are you a messy work space kinda person?

Sometimes I swear I spend more time just decluttering my work space and getting it neat and tidy so I can think and actually create than I do creating!

I decided to use this desk calendar and I blocked off the afternoons I have off in a month. The plan was to head to the gym after I was done work at 11:25. Then head home after an hour or so at the gym for some lunch. Then spend the afternoon writing and creating until walking across the street at about 4 to fetch the kids.

My vision has yet to happen. I think I’ve done that 2, possibly 3 but I highly doubt it, times since school started on September 4th.

There always seems to be an appointment or an errand to run . . . Perhaps the colder weather and some snow will be the kick in the butt I need to stick to my plan.

Apron making

So I offered to make this apron for Homespun Dazzle in exchange for some of her fabulously fantastic candles.

A Little Shopping

While in Toronto for BlissdomCA I made the epic walk to The Workroom.

Picked up these fun fat quarters, it seems it was a pink and blue day.

I also picked up one of those cross stitchable pendants. Not sure what I’m putting on it yet but I’ve got some fun ideas.

Also, yeah it’s Friday and I still haven’t finished what I said I would for my Create Along, once again, such is life.
