I did something wild and crazy . . . again.

So yeah, I’m Canadian and I can mediocrely skate. I can roller blade. No cross overs, turning is okish, stopping involves walls and other people usually. But a few weeks ago I went to see a roller derby play off game and well, I was hooked.

Then I watched another game in another city.

Then I watched a scrimmage at the park which was also a ‘Meet and Greet’.

Then I signed up.

If your localish and want to sign up too, click the banner.

There I am practicing at the park rink. Looking tentative but honestly I did really well. I did tumble after about an hour, then was quite wobbly for a few minutes and I realized I should probably call it a night and get off my skates (I did do an hour of personal training that day and get a painful type of massage on my hip area which I had iced before heading out). I even managed to get up unassisted on my own after lying on my back and staring at the sky for a moment.

I’ll have to warn everyone if I’m away from school unexpectedly on a Monday morning it’s because I did something bad at practice Sunday night!

Finally quilted my lap quilt!

My mom bought me a really nice fluffy soft blanket for my birthday a few years ago. It lives in a basket next to the couch. It’s cozy. However, when it’s not in the basket it’s wrapped around one of my children! I can’t get a turn with my own blankie!! So I decided to make my own.

I went with squares of Japanese fabrics and just tried to use a bunch of a favourites. It’s pretty busy.

For the top stitching I used free motion quilting. I’m *very* new at that so it’s quite wonky in places but that’s ok, it’s my blankie and I made it with love.

I just have to do some trimming and squaring up and then bind it. Off to cut the fabric for that now!

Crafting away with Netflix

Making hair clips and catching up on shows. I’ll hit the sewing machine over the weekend. Promise.

Surrounded with art and creativity to get me back into art and creativity

So many months, so many WIP’s in my craft space, so much time lost, so many ideas! Well it’s time to get cracking! Since I’m off for the summer I should be able to handle this blog thing I’ve missed so much and the creative addiction I used to have. Lost my way for a bit but I’m back to spread my creative wings once again, but I’m going to try to do it in a realistic way. Isn’t it just the worst to make promises to ourselves that we can’t keep and raise the bar so high it’s impossible to get there. New leaf, new plan.

I spent time on Canada Day, translation July 1st, wandering the arts and crafts tent display at the Cobourg Waterfront Festival and I was apparently in the mood for some art because I picked up a few gems.

I walked away with two prints and a pendant necklace from Moon House Art. She has an Etsy shop as well, I picked up a fairy print, the fox in the woods and a pendant with this image in it.

I also fell in love with Cori Lee Marvin’s work. It’s breathtaking. I love watercolours and used to paint them often, something that I haven’t done in ages and ages. Her work is super realistic and absolutely amazing. She also has an Etsy shop.

I picked up this print, shocking I’m sure.

I’m also going back some day for this one, the colours in person are beautiful and I figured together with a sewing machine it was a good pairing for a crafty sometime blogger!

It was a super day browsing crafts, chatting with creative people and expanding my bedroom art wall (soon to be three walls because I have an addiction!)

Michelle patterns sale!

I know I’ve gone on and on about Michelle Patterns but I just love her stuff so darn much (and she’s an affiliate sponsor on my blog). My iBooks shelf is over flowing with her stuff. I’ve made so many of her great patterns into fun stuff like the bracelet bag, the bucket bag, clutches, scrappy wallets, more scrappy wallets and yes, even more scrappy wallets. Still need to carve out time to finish this one, love the fabric covered button.

Sooooo she’s having a 6 year anniversary sale!

Go take a look!

crochet again?

I’m going to try my hand at this crochet things again.

I have a cup cozy related idea to do with them.
I ordered some patterns from this Etsy shop.

Wish me luck!

Inspiration

Mollie makes. Am I right!? Every time I read this magazine I flag a ton of things to make, try, look up or inspiration hits with a big BWONG!

So I’m going to park myself on the couch and actually do something about all these flagged items I have lying around.

Hexie addiction

Yeah I love these things.

Scraps and fun fabrics. Some of my favourite things.

Also, see storing them in this fun container I found while thrifting.

Stitchy

I have a line up of things to get stitchy with.

Probably should have gotten to them with this crazy long, cold, dark winter I had the pleasure of hanging out with this year. Buuuuut I didn’t.

Inspired by the dark side.

Well after I finished construction on this on Sunday I decided to make myself one. I used the techniques I learned in this patchwork bags course from this wonderful lady when I made this bag. Using scraps I pieced together my own fun cozy.

I even used the left over bias tape I made from the Tinkertote.

Keeps my tea pot super warm, for sale oh and funkily cute.
