Art Journaling

Well I signed up for this class and I’m excited!

Creativebug

I watched the first week for a bit while sewing and scrawled a list of all the fun supplies I wanted to run out and buy so badly. But then I just went on an organizing binge because, truthfully, I own most of that fun stuff already I just had to unearth it from my craft area.  I dug out a ton of adhesives and markers and pens and my water colour pencils . . . I have quite the stash ready to get creative with!

So I’m off to finish a sewing WIP and then sit with my sketchbook and hitagain!

Surrounded with art and creativity to get me back into art and creativity

So many months, so many WIP’s in my craft space, so much time lost, so many ideas! Well it’s time to get cracking! Since I’m off for the summer I should be able to handle this blog thing I’ve missed so much and the creative addiction I used to have. Lost my way for a bit but I’m back to spread my creative wings once again, but I’m going to try to do it in a realistic way. Isn’t it just the worst to make promises to ourselves that we can’t keep and raise the bar so high it’s impossible to get there. New leaf, new plan.

I spent time on Canada Day, translation July 1st, wandering the arts and crafts tent display at the Cobourg Waterfront Festival and I was apparently in the mood for some art because I picked up a few gems.

I walked away with two prints and a pendant necklace from Moon House Art. She has an Etsy shop as well, I picked up a fairy print, the fox in the woods and a pendant with this image in it.

I also fell in love with Cori Lee Marvin’s work. It’s breathtaking. I love watercolours and used to paint them often, something that I haven’t done in ages and ages. Her work is super realistic and absolutely amazing. She also has an Etsy shop.

I picked up this print, shocking I’m sure.

I’m also going back some day for this one, the colours in person are beautiful and I figured together with a sewing machine it was a good pairing for a crafty sometime blogger!

It was a super day browsing crafts, chatting with creative people and expanding my bedroom art wall (soon to be three walls because I have an addiction!)

My art wall.

Ok I think it’s done . . . for now. Here’s some close ups.

I had another plan for the wall that my headboard is against but I started on the mission and realized it wasn’t going to work out as planned. I’ll have to rethink that one for now and make a new plan.

City of Craft fun.

On Saturday I headed into Toronto and volunteered at the City of Craft. If you happened to come to the event I was frantically trying to stamp hands and click that little people counter thingie at the same time. They give away swag bags to the first 100 people on Saturday morning. The doors opened at 11:00 and the bags were gone in about 5 minutes, seriously.

After my shift I wandered around the show and found these lovely ladies Have and Hold Design who were running a fun photobooth. Everyone seemed to be going in with a friend and getting super silly so I was a little hesitant at doing it but I was talked into it. That’s the fun shot they took.

I also picked up this great mitten lino print, I seem to be addicted to buying art lately. It’s by Katie Muth.

I regret not buying this one too.

Giveaways below if you haven’t already entered!

Camp themed swap stuff!

I’ve been a bad blog owner, forgive me. My fun package for the Camp Themed Swap that Amanda so willingly ran for me and a group of lucky ladies arrived . . . . 2 Fridays ago. It took me until Sunday to even open the package, I’ve been sooooo busy lately it’s been insane. Hence the blog absence. I’ve been frantically making cup cozies, yes still! Everywhere I go I’m pulling out some stitching, it’s a little crazy. I’ve finally made it into my September orders and I only have about 20 more to make. I sat around all summer on vacation and of course my shop had to go viral (for the second time) right when it was back to school time!

Anyhow, enough ranting, here’s what I’m supposed to be writing about, my haul!

Going across the rows – back row –  a fun mixed media painting, a print of a drawing of three bears camping and some awesome hoop art with a happy camper.

Middle-ish my log pin cushion, a CAMPO game, a fun floral case for glasses, some camp themed stationary, a crocheted flower hair thingie, and a heart shaped box.

Front-ish – a little note book with graph paper and camp themed stickers in it, a compass hair pin, a firefly keychain, a button ring,  brown bear earrings, and a signed original piece of art work.

All placed on top of a vintage pillow case sending me happy camping wishes!

Here’s some close ups,

It was such a fun thing to be involved in.  At first I wondered what on earth we would all come up with for camp themed crafts (especially as someone who’s never been camping) but we did all right!

Friday Find – JewelzyBug Designs GIVEAWAY!!

As if playing around on etsy isn’t dangerous enough already, the other day while poking around I clicked ‘shop local’ and stumbled onto some pretty neat stuff. My favourite was JewlezyBug so I’m sharing her first! Julie has created some really cute characters and uses some interesting materials. She paints on rocks to make neat pendants and uses pages from old books and phone books as the canvases for her whimsical paintings!

I sent her a message on etsy and she seems really fun and agreed to do a GIVEAWAY!!!!! Soooo free stuff to someone who’s in need of cuteness! Julie is willing to giveaway one of her prints, see them all here in her flickr pool, just leave a comment here telling us which one is your fav (they’re numbered 1-90). I like this little guy.

I asked her a little bit about herself and she sent this little blurb, thanks for sharing!

“I have always doodled and painted for as long as I can remember. I am drawn to bright colours and happy motifs that catch the eye and make you smile. I like my art to make you feel good and brighten your day. I use old books and phone books as my back drops because they visually stimulate the eye and provide texture to the art. I feel my art is a reflection of my inner child just wanting to play. I take inspiration from colour, from my day, nature, from the people in the my life and from my furbabies (4 cats and 1 dog: Jewels (hence the name!)”

She also has a blog where she shares her new creations, fun crafts and her cute animals. I love these ribbon curtains she made.

I’ll do some magical random winner picking Sunday night and announce Monday morning! Ohhh the suspense, I’d better set my iphone alarm . . .
