Craft and Click

I’ve had a digital subscription to Mollie Makes since the first issue. If you download the Mollie Makes app from the app store and purchase your magazines there they also have this magazine for sale. I was debating purchasing it for a while and wasn’t sure I should.

Then I finally caved and bought it. I was a bit disappointed flipping through it at first, it starts with simple things I knew like making your Facebook page and setting up Twitter. But then I realized if you’re relatively new to social media or have just started a blog it could be useful.

Then as I flipped through it I started to jot notes on a little paper. Blogs I hadn’t heard of, sites to explore, I ended up filling the entire paper and having to flip it over and scrawl on the back.

I still have to make the time to check it all out but thought I’d share that this magazine is worth the few dollars it costs! Oh, so is Mollie Makes!

Friday Create Along

I’m going to tackle one, hopefully 2, of these messenger bags from Michelle Patterns.

Wesley asked for a bag like that, probably because Mommy and Daddy have messenger bags. So of course Nate wants one too. I’ve taken their colour requests and if I’m lucky I can get both finished this week! I’ll let you know on Friday how far I get.

I’m crafty

I’ve made myself a little brooch. I’m sure if I’m sitting at a table at a craft show it’s pretty obvious I’m crafty but I still thought this would be fun to wear.

I’m just getting ready for Sunday’s craft show, and hoping for good weather! It’s a rain or shine event and I’m under a big tent but attendance will be terrible if it gets all rainy and stuff.

I was planning on making a run for the border on Saturday, but then I realized I’m still trying to recover from my two NYC trips. But I’m not sure if I can resist, Joann’s, Target . . . it might be too magnetic for me to avoid! I’ll letcha know.

My weekend.

I’m going to be here.

It’s on Sunday and it’s a rain or shine event so I’m crossing my fingers for the shine! We’re making an overnight trip of it and after coordinating the childcare shifts we’re heading out on Saturday and enjoying a night in Niagara Falls. It’s one of those date things I hear so much about.

Garden Gnomes

I’m published again! This book was recently released by Forklore Publishing and one of my cup cozy patterns is included. It’s a DIY book all about Garden Gnomes! There are some really fun projects included and they use a wide variety of materials. There are a bunch of contributors as well. Click this link for a peek at the projects, click here to purchase. There’s a print version that comes with the digital one for free, or you can buy just the digital.

Giveaway day winners.

Well thanks to everyone who stopped by for another successful Giveaway Day. I love having tons of people come here, and I get to visit loads of new to me blogs, and then I get to pick someone and send them something that makes them smile! It’s all so fun.

I just choose my winners and congrats to Laura and Lynn! I had to pick 2 and hold myself back from choosing even more. Everyone left such lovely comments and I wish I could just sew all week and send all of you a wallet . . . sadly I can’t. Emails are sent Laura and Lynn so send me back your requests and addresses.

Friday Createalong

Well I finished this tote and I really love it. This is the first project I’ve made from my ever growing Pinterest board and I’m thankful to Michelle Patterns for presenting me with this challenge. I may be addicted. I picked the fabric up for $3 a metre at a quilting shop and I loved the vintage look of it. As a tote it’s turned out great!

I used this free pattern from UHandbags. The recommended handles are longer than the ones I used but I grabbed what I had on hand. It won’t go on my shoulder but it’s great to carry down at your side.

The pattern was pretty easy to follow but man, oh man, I’m not a fan of pleats! Also, I’m not sure what I did wrong, there were supposed to be 6 pleats and somehow I had room for 7 *shrug* But that doesn’t change the bag. However, that meant 7 pleats times 4 pieces of fabric, it was tedious. I do love the way the topstitching works and holds the pleats down. I’ve put pleats in totes before but they’ve only been sewn at the top.

Sewing the handles on was killer on my fingers, going through all those layers and trying to aim for the holes. I also tried to keep the interior stitches really, really small since I matched the thread to the handle colour but foolishly used black for the interior fabric.

Every time I make something new I take it into school to show some of the ladies I work with. The tote was well received. And then a bunch of them asked if I’m done the projects I’m working on for them. Good thing the weekend is coming!

I am sort of Friday Create Alonging

I just finished a purse using this pattern. It’s the For Pleat’s Sake Tote from Lisa Lam of UHandbag. That’s her tote in the picture not mine. She has a great free tutorial section as well as PDF patterns for sale. She’s also got some great books about making bags and purses, the second one is coming out next week. They also sell hardware for sewing the projects on the site.

I’m making it as part of a fun feature on Michelle Patterns this week where we had to make something from one of our Pinterest boards. I’m in the process of editing my ‘Craft Lovliness‘ board and seprating it into things I actually intend to create and things that inspire me. I’ve had this bag in mind for a while so I set to work making it. You can check out what other bloggers have made over on Michelle’s blog and I’ll reveal mine on Friday.

Photography tips.

I’ve been tossing around the idea of a tablet and instead decided to devote some time to playing with my iPad to see if it can meet my needs. Elsie wrote this great post about helpful apps and I investigated those and got a few that will work for me.

Recently I found this blog and in clicking around found Violet’s great post about taking wonderful pictures. She has some really simple tips and tricks to help you get there.

Sometimes I look back at my earliest blog posts and I can’t believe my photos. I’ve learned so much in the few years I’ve been running my blog, mostly just through trial and error. There are soooo many talented people blogging out there you can find someone who has already struggled with some sort of creative process and it’s really easy to learn a thing or two.

Giveaway Day!!

Yipee!! It’s giveaway day!!
