Swap much?

So I said I wasn’t going to do Happy Mail again right now because I was surprised by the shipping costs, even though it was super fun. Instead I sign up for 2 other swaps!!

I got into a card swap with Missy over at Crafty Carnival AND I’m part of the fat quarter swap at Sew Mama Sew! Guess the fabric store and post office are going to see a lot me this month!

I ordered these buttons the other day, from Gnipmap on Etsy. Just felt the need for some pics.

Why I shouldn’t sew in my black pants.

I had to chuckle at Sewing Dork‘s post the other day about discovering a giant white thread on her butt!  I feel her pain.  Usually I sew at night when the kiddies are in bed, so I change into jammie bottoms and get those all full of thread and bits and pieces.  Tonight in my eagerness to go downstairs (and create 5 taggie’s I might add!)  I didn’t change.  Lesson learned.

Ignore the toys and mess . . . and picture quality, it’s hard to take a photo of yourself all by yourself!

Back from the scrap!

Making a rap? Ok.  I’ll stop now.

I have returned from my weekend away!! It seems like it went by in a blink.  I arrived on Friday night, a tad late, at 7 and joined everyone for dinner and then off we went back to the huge room where all 11 of us were set up on our own huge table to work on our projects.  Somehow I’ve come home totally exhausted!  All I did was sat in a chair all weekend!  The first night I climbed into bed at 2am then got up at 9 and rushed to grab some breakfast, which was at 8:30.  Last night I went to bed at about 1:30 and woke up at 9.

I completed over 30 double page layouts, so over 60 12×12 pages! I finished a book of our Christmas trip. From start to finish I got it done, journaling and all!  This page with the kids at the playground is my favourite part of the book.  I love the photos and the lettering.  There were so many neat little gadgets, like the wonderful lovely Cricut which I need to have.

It was loads of fun. I’ve never been to something like this and it was great to have so much time to focus on layouts and have a big work area. It was also nice to have a break from being mommy. Big thanks to Kelly who set it all up.

OOoooohhh and the bestest part was that I had taken some of my taggie blankies to ask the crafty ladies present what they thought was a fair price, just to get an idea before my show.  The 3 ladies I showed them to each bought one!!  It was great.  Thanks ladies!

Scrapbooking retreat fun!

I’m away for the weekend at a scrapbooking retreat. It’s the first time I’ve had a weekend away from both the kiddies. Bit scary but fun too. There are 11 ladies here and last night the room cleared out, except for me! Of course, in my new found habit of staying up insanely late to craft I wasn’t tired and felt like I could keep going for a while. I made it to 1:30, watching shows on my lappy and working away. Breakfast is at 8:30 and apparently if I miss it I have to eat Doritos, Strudel and candy for breakfast instead. I’m undecided whether or not that’s a bad thing. I woke up this morning and the clock said 8:54, so I jumped up and ran to the dining room in my jammies. Everyone was gone already but the food was still out so I grabbed a plate and headed to my area.

The internet is rather flaky here and I didn’t bring my camera so I’m getting creative with my post and sharing some things I purchased from Etsy the other day. Shopping online is waaay to easy. I went on to gather things for the Tell Your Story class, specifically ephemera. I found these absolutely adorable stamps from Australia in this store.

I also got these awesome tags with illustrations of 70’s ladies on them. I’m loving the one with the daisy earrings and happy sunshine smile.

I think I’m going to have to make some time to hit up antique stores and root through boxes and bins. I remember years ago when I lived in Ottawa doing that one day with my room mates. I came away with some old black and white photos and even some bank slips and cheques from the turn of the century. It was such neat stuff.

OMG!

I have to admit I feel rather lame using that title for this post but there are no other letters or words that can express the excitement I feel after today! The other day my cousin called. She’s been helping our friend clean up after his wife just up and left rather suddenly taking only a few things with her. She called to tell me there was ‘a lot of fabric and craft supplies’. She offered to pack it up and bring it over in boxes but I figured I’d like to visit, see the house, take the kids somewhere new and said I would drive out on my next day off. I was told to make sure the back of the van was empty.

When we got there and I followed her into the basement I could not believe my eyes! I’m kicking myself now for not taking my camera. There were 5 or 6 bookshelves, those wobbily simple pine ones, lining the walls of the ‘sewing room’ and the shelves were covered in folded up pieces of fabric!! Denim, silky stuff, corduroy, flannel . . . everything! On the floor there were boxes and bins of fabric, patterns, yarn, gimp . . . it was only a few hours ago but I honestly can’t even remember it all it was sooo much. She told me to take whatever I wanted. Organizing is a passion of hers, as is cleaning, so she’s been really busy over there. Apparently this lady could have been on that hoarders show, it was insane the amount of stuff there. We set to work while my kids played with new to them toys in a nice big house.

Here’s a peak at some of the things that came home with me today.  There’s still more waiting for me back there, I thought I’d slowly bring it into the house to avoid sending my hubby into shock.  There was  soft and cuddily minky fabrics for my taggie blankies, I brought home a basket full, more in a box and there’s a big garbage bag full still waiting to come home with me.  We found patterns for Cabbage Patch clothes and Sailor Moon costumes.  As well as patterns to make your own Love A Lot Carebear or Popples!  We came across the Popple fabric and other than remembering my cousin had the ‘white one’ we could not remember what they were called.  The closest we got was they had something to do with ‘pop’.  Luckily we later found the pattern which solved the mystery and spared us having to Google it.  The back of the package names the Popples as Puzzle, Puffball and Prize.  No clue which is which.

I also grabbed some baskets to use at the craft show I’m going to in May.  There’s still a ton more there and I promised to return with a friend who would appreciate the chance at free fabric.  It was a great fun day with my cuz and I came home with many treasures!

Idea from IKEA!

A while ago my friend and I were browsing IKEA and I picked up this table runner figuring inspiration would hit.  I’ve been wanting to make a table runner for ages, I’m dying to make this one but can’t collect all the required fabrics.  Instead I decided to embroider the $4.99 IKEA one with some inspiring, warm and fuzzy words.  I chose a dark burgundy red-y colour because I liked it and thought it would look nice with our table.  Finally finished it the other day!

I thought I had run out of floss on the very last section with about 5 inches left to stitch!  I wasn’t impressed.  But then I found a little blob of floss that had slipped behind the tissue box.  I was so happy, it doesn’t take much lately.

Playing with photos, happy mail and up late once again!

Signed up for a Picnik account yesterday and I’m loving this 1960’s effect they have.  I’m also having fun adding text to images.  Prepare to see funner pictures from now on!  There’s me (finally) hiding behind a morning tea.  I was worried it would take longer to post but it’s really fairly quick and easy to use.  It’s almost making me want to go back and repost all my pics . . . . almost.

I also received my happy mail from Christina.  She’s got this really cool website Craftee (lovin’ the name!).   She sent me some fun stuff, including a really beautiful journal with matching pens. It made me want to doodle and pushed me over the edge into the ‘yes please!’ camp for Elsie and Rachel‘s Tell Your Story class.

Thanks to Indie 2.0 I learned how to make my very own little widgets. I’m so excited. Now I just have to get them up and out there, which will be thanks to my techie hubby. I made a few, any opinions?

I’m going to have a table at this show on May 1st and I’ve been going crazy sewing like a maniac to get a huge pile of things to take and sell.  Since it’s my first show I’ll be getting a feel for what sells and what doesn’t.  There’s less than a month left now and I’m starting to feel the crunch.  Fingers crossed all goes well!  And on that note, 1am is probably a good time to go to bed.

Taggie madness!

I’ve been working on taggie blankies the last few days.  For a change of scenery last night I made some crayon cosies instead, THEN I cut fabric for more taggie blankies.  Hoping tomorrow to get the ribbons pinned on, possibly on my lunch hour at work, so I can sew them together tomorrow night.

I really like the brown one, it’s a Heidi Grace fabric from Joann’s.  The white cuddly stuff on the back is soooo soft.  I might have to make myself a king sized taggie blankie for our bed!
