I got an awesome gift the other day. My friend Joanna came over to bring me a surprise. Apparently she’s been working on it for months and months.
It’s all awesomely crocheted and lined with fabric. The little wing circles on the sides are pockets. It’s absolutely incredible quality, she did an amazing job.
My giant envelope of Scrap Swap goodies came earlier this week. We sort of accidentally conducted a little experiment too since Jessica and I mailed our packages on the same day. Mine got to her waaay before hers arrived here. So apparently Canada to US is faster than US to Canada. I’ll have to test again with the next scrap swap!
So here’s all the fantastic goodies Jessica sent. Complete with a moose, you know because I’m Canadian.
Fabric, fabric, fabric! Turns out destashing is almost as addictive as the stashing.
Little doilies, which are awesome because I’ve wanted to either learn to make them in funky colours, or collect some and dye them. She also sent these fantastic vintage buttons that belonged to her grandmother, such a nice thing to give.
And a ton of corks that I can get inventive with. Her hubby is a bartender so she said they’re buried in corks.
Ashley Ann hauled in this fun load of stuff. Jessica made an adorable stuffed animal with the bits and pieces I sent her.
I am going to organize another one of these, it was super fun and getting a giant package in the mail is awesome.
Perhaps in March, sort of a spring cleaning type thing!

Friday night I made this after Wesley went to bed and I had the urge to create a LEGO town for him. So while we watched some mindless shows I constructed on the coffee table. I only took a crummy nighttime iPhone picture and it was night, so I waited for Mr. Sun.
Saturday morning we moved it up to his room on the train table so he could expand it. I had to charge the camera battery before I could snap some up close shots. When I went up to snap some pics later in the day it appears Natezilla had destroyed the town when we weren’t looking. I was sad. There was some rebuilding but my heart wasn’t really into it after seeing all the destruction. Here are some shots of the parts I was pretty proud of.
Saturday Nate found Baby Jobby and played with her all day (except when she was napping and he destroyed a whole town). I bought Baby Jobby while pregnant with Nate because Wesley was asking for a doll. Nate found her neglected and naked in some corner. So I spent some time sewing up some diapers and a dress. Then we went out to buy another baby, there had been a feud, but came home instead with a bed for Baby after Wesley assured me they could share 1 baby and take turns.
I love how there’s a bunch of cars in the crib with Baby Jobby.
Oh and somewhere in all that we made heart shaped crayons for Wesley to give to his classmates. Thanks to Frugal Family Fun Blog for the tips on making them.
Well I have some cup cozy orders to finish thanks to my playful procrastination over the weekend!

Well guess that titles gives it all away . . . I tested a pattern.
I signed up on I Think Sew and then when I was contacted the lovely Sue asked me if I’d make . . . . A TOTE BAG!!! Yipee!!
I used the vintage fabric that Keyka Lou mentioned, I have a problem buying the cute fabrics she mentions. For the lining I just grabbed something from my stash. There’s a little metal clasp on the inside and it’s a really nice big roomy bag. I’ve been using it since.
I also own this fun pattern and have been carrying around the PDF on my ipad searching for just the right fabric.
Somehow I’m getting stuffed up again. It’s so not cool. We all just got over some hideous cold. I don’t want a new one. I saw this printable linked and had a great idea for it. It’s from yoursecretadmiral and she’s a superstar for sharing such a fun little printable.
I wanted to make something to help me plan lunches during the week. I teach in the afternoons, which at my school start at 12:25, but I have a 10 minute yard duty everyday from 12:15-12:25. So I have to start lunch for me and the boys at about 11, especially with all the winter gear. If we go out in the world to do something in the mornings I’m usually rushing to get a lunch ready and I’m lucky if I get to eat before we have to run out the door and across the street to the sitter. I *hate* feeding them quick convenience food and really make an effort to prepare from scratch.
I printed out the file, cut the days apart and laminated them. I have the cute little “My lists” house set aside for a notebook or something, I didn’t laminate it. Then I cut pieces from a roll of magnetic tape and attached a little bit to the back of each day. Then you have little magnets that are also write off/wipe off boards!
You could put them on your fridge or anywhere else magnetable. These are on one of the handiest things in our kitchen, that isn’t used for cooking. I’m a tad embarassed to show the inside but it’s such a wonderful little thing I’m going to share. Magnetic front, builiten board back and storage compartment, all in one handy good looking thing!

It’s snowy outside. I’ve had this idea for a while but finally got around to it. I grabbed an under bed storage box, 4 bags of elbow pasta, food colouring and rubbing alcohol. I was going to use rice but was told by someone that it can get quite slippy when it spills on the floor. Plus elbows make a noise you can hear and they’re easy to spot and pick up with your bare hands.
My boys loved it and have played in it every day. Wesley insists on calling it ‘macaroni and cheese’, it’s cute. Look, Nate can’t even stop for a drink it’s so much fun!! I tossed in some metal kitchen utensils too since they make fun noises with pouring macaroni.
I had picked up some discount sand toys at the end of the summer with this plan in mind. The entire thing cost me under $20 but you could use any tub (I just wanted hide away storage) and you might have rubbing alcohol and food colouring already on hand. I Googled how to colour pasta, it’s ridiculously simple. Grab a zip lock type bag, pour in about 1/4 cup rubbing alchohol, about 12 drops of colouring and some pasta. I wasn’t exact. It’s pretty easy, more colour, darker pasta . . I’m sure you get it. Leave it sit in the bag sort of flattened and spread out for one hour then turn it over for another hour. Pour it all out onto a cookie sheet with some paper towel or rag on it and let it dry over night. In the morning it’s all good to go!
Note don’t bother trying to colour it yellow it does nothing. I assumed so but had to try just to be sure.

Last night the plan was to go fabric shopping with my bff. We did a bit of that but weren’t equiped to really search out what she needed so instead we decided to pop into some thrift stores. We were amazingly rewarded! She found a vintage typewriter that she loved, but it was missing the J. While pondering if she shoudl just take it J-less or not she realised there was another one buried under some stuff right beside it. I wandered over and checked it out and while I did she lifted up the round keyed one and found the J lying there. It just needed to be snapped back on.
So we left, each with a typewriter. Price tags $17.99 each. Score.
I found this cute little mixing bowl, no idea if it’s actually ‘vintage’ or not but I love the colour and designs. The little set of plates feature cute little building and are from Germany. My husband and I have vowed to only have knick knacks if they are from our travels. These plates aren’t, but they’re really cute and we’ve been to Germany so same thing really.
I also got a Samsonite train case but it’s still in my van and needs some surface cleaning before a photo shoot.
