Monthly Archives: September 2010

They say photographing kids and animals is hard,

turns out it’s just as hard to NOT photograph them! Today I asked hubby to take some shots of me so I can send them on over to Wild Olive for her sponsor post. I had an idea for a pose and we set to work making it happen. I had to sit on the floor and Nate thinks it’s hilarious when I do that. He also thinks I’m his personal chair. We had some trouble getting shots around him. Here are some outtakes.

Super cute kawaii contest.

Over at Spoonflower they’re having a kawaii fabric contest.  The wonderful Wild Olive has her fun bacon fabric in the race for first place.

Since I already own some it’s a given I like that one but here are a few of my other favs.  Click images to be whisked away to the listings.  Head on over to see all the entries and vote for the one you like best.

They’re all sooooo cute!  Wish I had a room just for fabric collecting!

Fun stuff from Renegade Craft Fair.

Ok, once again taking far to long for this but here’s some of the fun stuff I picked up in Chicago at the craft fair.

This beautiful necklace is from Isette. I thought it was perfect, especially for a teacher.

These sticker by Hello Wars is awesome! I had a hard time choosing just one. Then I remembered I only had a spot for one on my lappy. Decision made.

I got a fun grab bag from Reuse First full of paper crafts and fun things made from scavenged papers.

I got this awesome card from Kate Funk. It was hard to decide she has quite the fun selection.

I LOVE this one too.

I also got this fun shirt for my hubby.

Giveaway!!

Woohoo!! Head over here and enter a giveaway to win one of my lovely cup cozies.

You just have to visit my shop and then leave Ms Muffins a comment about which one you like best! Giveaway closed September 28th.

I caved.

I debated buying this when I saw it in the Costco magazine but since I only recently bought a used Cricut from someone for $75 I thought it was a bit excessive.  Then I went out to be crafty with some people Friday night and they were all raving about it.  *sigh*  My arm was twisted.  Plus it’s my birthday this week so I consider it a gift to myself.

There’s too much to list all the features here, click the image to go to the link and see it all for yourself.  Even just the little summary makes it worth the price!  “Set includes: 1 Cricut Expression® personal electronic cutter and 1 YourStory® book binder and laminator” Now to watch the mailbox all week!

The Cricut Expression is the 12 x 12 model, so right there it’s larger than the one I currently have. It also comes with 2 cartridges, which is awesome, the Storybook one and the Essential Accents one. I sense there will be some fun to be had!

So anyone want to buy a slightly used in box Cricut machine?

Renegade fun, yeah a week later.

Honest I did drive to Chicago, well mostly I passengered, but I was there!  Here’s my 1 pic to prove it.

Yep, that’s it the one picture I took at the craft fair.  We just got so busy wandering around and looking at all the cool stuff I didn’t really take the camera out again.  Silly me.  I even stopped at the RVA booth and met Elsie, again no pic. Add to that the fact it’s taken me a whole week to write about the trip and I’m kind of failing at this road trip documenting thing.  I’ve been soooo busy with back to school-ness, catching up on orders and just life in general!

I did manage to get some pictures of the city though.

We walked a whole ton!  I was a big party pooper and didn’t want to pay $16 to head up the Willis Tower, I’m sorry bff, forgive me.  So we did a lot of wandering and general checking things out.  There was, of course, a stop for deep dish pizza.  It was INSANELY HUGE!  The picture doesn’t do it justice but it was basically like a huge piece of pie only it was pizza.

After struggling to eat 2 slices each we left with the other 2 in a take out container and wandered the streets.  Realising we’d have no where to put our pizza on our 9 hour road trip home and night in a hotel we passed it on to a homeless man.  He asked for change and we gave him pizza.

I loved the way the subway ran on top of the streets, I know it’s probably not really that awesome but it was new to me and therefore cool.

We kept walking around as it got dark, despite the fact that we still had a 4+hour drive to our hotel room.  I really wanted to check out Navy Pier but, foolishly, I led us in the general direction of it which proved to be a dead end street that was on much higher ground than the pier, and separated from it by 2 highways.  Next time Chicago.

I’ll find some time this week to share my purchases and some link love for the fun sellers I saw.

Organizing fun!

I went to IKEA to buy this little friend to replace my boring table legs and have some more storage for my growing sewing supplies.

THEN I had the thought that it would be cool to label all the drawers with my Cricut and vinyl.  But then I had an even better idea and used my woodgrain shelf contact paper instead.  It was really easy and I love the way it turned out.

The drawers filled up quickly.

My fabric crush drawer, full of all the prints I can’t bear to cut up yet.

I even labelled my other drawer unit where I keep my papercrafts stuff.  Ignore the mess, thread on the floor and my slipper oh, and jammie bottoms.  Clearly I was prepared for taking a professional shot.

Next on my ‘organzing my craft space’ wishlist is this,

Then I’ll fill it with fun storage containers like this,

In a faraway land . . .

well to me, Ms Muffins over in Germany is dedicating her blog to all things tea this month! Here’s how I fit in.

She’s had some really cute ideas so far, including this lovely gem. Tutorial for the wreath is here.

This is super fun too, great way to use thrifted finds! Tutorial here.

Can’t wait to see what else she posts! There might even be some giveaways! I mean, I’m just saying . . . there might be ;)

Random stuff to share.

I haven’t really bothered to take any new pictures these last few days since I have no card reader to copy them over anyhow.  Which means tomorrow I have a truck load of things to snap photos of!  I’ve made a few really cute things and I need to add some items to my shop.  On top of that I still have a line up of cup cozy orders!

In the meantime I figured I’d share some things I’ve had kicking around but just haven’t posted yet.  The first is this awesome fabric I picked up at a Mary Maxim tent sale on clearance.  It’s really 50’s-ish looking and so fun.  I think I may tackle turning it into a quilt, with some reds, oranges and browns.  I think it could be really nice.

I also whipped together another pouch.  Sometimes I have what appears to be ‘beginner’s luck’ but I don’t realize it until I make the second item.  The first crayon cozy I made I used rick rack without incident.  Haven’t been able to pull rick rack off properly since!

Then I made the lovely Snow White pencil case and it all turned out beautifully.  But when I made this one something wonky happened at the zipper ends and instead of nice squared corners I have rounded ones.  It’s not that big of a deal but since I know it’s not what I intended it bugs me.

We had a street party today.  Everyone was invited and asked to bring a ‘ethnic dish’.  Some people brought family recipes from way back, some people (like me) brought things they’re good at making but either way it was all fantastic!!  There was waaaay too much food and a ton of desserts.  The kids all banded together to run about like maniacs from lawn to lawn.  While it was a tad cool, the weather was lovely, I just ran home to keep making teas.  I came in when the kids seemed pooped and got everyone off to bed before some TV and stitching.  Now I’ve switched to bed and lappy and it sounds like the party has switched to ‘now that we’ve all drank too much lets sing along to whatever song is on’.  It’s kind of funny, even with the window closed I can sort of here them, but they sound so enthusiastic and like they’re enjoying themselves it’s making me smile.

My tea.

Last night while completing 4 cup cozies I took a moment to make myself one since the idea has been in my head for a little bit now.

It felt good to create a to do and then get it to done!

Now that I’ve basked in the glory of that, off to finish some more orders.

The photo is courtesy of my iphone and therefore not the greatest.
