Friday Create Along.

Well once again thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway and congrats again to Rachel for winning the pattern. Here’s what I made.

I used a Heidi Grace print I picked up on one of my US trips, I haven’t seen her fun fabric here in Canada yet. I choose a green print for the inside with little flowers because it had a circular pattern like the outside print.

I loved seeing everyone’s ideas for how they would use their creations, of course most of them had to do with projects. I’m going to put my business reading in mine. I have a bunch of craft and small business books I’ve been meaning to get through. I thought I’d get to them over the summer but so far no such luck!

If you would like to make your own BLISSFULpatterns has created a coupon code, SEWTARA15, for 15% off any of her patterns until the end of July. You can also like her on that Facebook thing.

I may have to give this bin a try. Not that I need one, I just like to sew new stuff! Plus the picture is adorable!

Ok, next up is this flex frame pouch tutorial. I have a few of these frames lying around and I’ve managed to pull one off by fumbling through the instructions in a Japanese craft book I have. But I’m going to go on a hexie binge and this is up first.

There’s lots of hexie tutorials out there, I learned how from Zakka Style, but just Google it if you haven’t made some before. Start making them now if you want to play along in the next few weeks.

Bigger scraps and non scraps.

I believe non-scrap bits of fabric are just called fabric.

I ordered some more fun stuff. Yeah, stomach I need to stop ordering and get sewing.

I do have a problem.

But I admit it.

Carry on.

Scraps! Yes, I’m a scrap addict.

Well I fell victim to ordering some scraps again. These ones are from Michelle Patterns and I always love her fabric choices, all the ones she posts about on her blog and of course her patterns. So whenever I catch that she has a scrap pack for sale I usually end up buying it.

I’ve already cut a bunch up for some scrappy wallets and set aside the small bits for magnet making. Now that I’m caught up on all my orders I intend to do some fun sewing. What a coincidence school is almost out.

Seriously, fabric with poodles *and* strawberries. How cute is that?!

I’m crafty

I’ve made myself a little brooch. I’m sure if I’m sitting at a table at a craft show it’s pretty obvious I’m crafty but I still thought this would be fun to wear.

I’m just getting ready for Sunday’s craft show, and hoping for good weather! It’s a rain or shine event and I’m under a big tent but attendance will be terrible if it gets all rainy and stuff.

I was planning on making a run for the border on Saturday, but then I realized I’m still trying to recover from my two NYC trips. But I’m not sure if I can resist, Joann’s, Target . . . it might be too magnetic for me to avoid! I’ll letcha know.

Giveaway Day!!

Yipee!! It’s giveaway day!!

So I’m going to give away a scrappy wallet! Just like the ones in the photos, but I’ve got to make it still. I promise it will be super fun and wallety. Leave your entry below and make sure there’s a way for me to contact you. The winner will be chosen at the end of this week.

Pendants galore.

I’ve been trying different things to use scraps to make pendants. I haven’t had much success with finding a way that works but I think I have now.

I haven’t enjoyed attempting it with Modge Podge, often there’s bubbles no matter what I try so I was happy to find these pendant frames. Sadly I only bought 5. Time to reorder.

Challenge accepted.

Lately I’ve been bothered by unfinished projects lying around. They sort of eat at the back of my head and nibble away, annoying me. It’s sort of like how you make resolutions, or unrealistic goals and they end up just bothering you rather than inspiring you. This weekend it’s been my scrap bin that’s driving me batty.

Last night I had the idea to sew from my scrap bin all week. I didn’t set a Create Along goal for Friday since this week is busy for me but I do vow to go to my scrap bin for every project I tackle.

See it’s HUGE! I’ll keep you posted.

Friday Create Along

Here’s my cute little door stop from this tutorial over on Mollie Makes!

I filled it with rice we had lying around, which from what I know about making bean bags, is fine unless the rice gets cooked somehow. It can even get wet but will be fine once it dries.

Annnnd now I’m not choosing another project for next week since I have to finish planning and run my school’s Community Day next week. Usually our Community Day is a big fundraiser for our school and the money goes to help pay for things like graduation, the next year’s Community Day, etc. This year my school is the lucky recipient of a national award from Let Them Be Kids. On Saturday, June 9th our staff, students, parents and community will be pulling together and working hard all day to erect 2 play structures in our school yard. Current our school yard has nothing but pavement and a small patch of grass, this will be such a big amazing change for us. If you’re local and want to help, or are feeling generous and can make a donation, you can follow the links for more info.

DIY Spring door decor

I took our little snowman decoration down a while back, since we had a pathetic amount of snow this year, and realized over the weekend our door looked bare. Thinking of spring I put together this cute scrappy little door decor.

I gathered up some fabric scraps, fleece scraps, and some baker’s twine. I reused the dowel hangy thing from a pennant someone had made me year’s ago for my classroom door. It had my maiden name on it so I cut it off and kept the wood bit around knowing I’d find a way to use it.

I chose cool coloured fabrics and made sure the fleece was blue as well. I wanted it to look a little unfinished at times. I cut 2 pieces of fabric for each raindrop and 1 piece of fleece. Sandwiched them together and zig zag stitched the baker’s twine in place on each raindrop with my sewing machine.

It’s really pretty hanging on the door and it’s fun when the wind gently blows the raindrops around a bit.
